Michael Olise’s low-key persona belies a player driving Bayern Munich, cherished in the stands and the dressing room.
L'Équipe reports that during his 2024 move from Crystal Palace he had no questions in the final briefing, and he has barely spoken publicly since. Max Eberl believes he makes his point on the pitch, not behind microphones.
This season he has 42 appearances, 17 goals and 25 assists. He hit a brace against Bergamo in the Champions League last 16 first leg, then starred eight days ago in the 2-1 quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid.
Team-mates depict an open, playful character in private who simply dislikes cameras. He controls the music at Säbener Strasse and is teased as Akpo by Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano, a nickname he does not enjoy.
Bilingual and bicultural, he moves easily between Francophone and Anglophone groups, while his work ethic is relentless. He pushed to refine his finishing and, at 4-1 against Hoffenheim on the final day of 2025, demanded a quick restart.
Vincent Kompany consults him first during games and sees De Bruyne-like traits in his mentality. In France he remains less known, yet on the Bleus’ Washington trip last month, after a 3-1 win over Colombia, he signed one red Bayern shirt.
Away from football he avoids films and series, dreams of retiring in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and plays chess, even during last May’s title celebrations. However quiet he stays, Munich still sings his name.
