In the preview of tomorrow's match in Vitoria, Girona FC coach Míchel Sánchez conveyed a message of continuity and demand following last weekend's victory. The coach emphasized that despite the euphoria generated by the triumph against FC Barcelona, the team is now fully focused on the challenge of facing a Deportivo Alavés side characterized by their intensity at home. “It has been a good week after winning a very special match. But we need to keep doing things well and pursuing the goal of forty-two points, which will likely ensure safety,” said Míchel, reminding that the focus remains on securing survival as soon as possible.
The coach warned of the difficulties of the match at Mendizorrotza and the need to deliver a very solid performance: “We have to go to Vitoria with the mentality we have now. Alavés, at home, is very intense and performs very well. We have to play a great game to beat them. We must continue with this dynamic of play.”
Míchel insisted on the importance of maintaining the principles that have allowed the team to grow in recent matches: “We must be able to maintain what we are doing well, we must be compact and fight for every ball.”
Regarding the team's good form, the coach highlighted that the improvement is the result of collective work: “We have changed because we have done things better as a team. The result always shapes the mentality, but to have a good mentality, you have to work.”
Despite the euphoria following the victory against Barça, Míchel assures that the team is already fully refocused on tomorrow's match: “Today we had a very good training session. After the victory against Barça, there was logical euphoria, but now we have moved from that euphoria to having confidence and being focused on doing things well.”
The coach also highlighted the defensive progress of the red-and-white team: “We have improved a lot in the defensive zone. The other day against Barça was the match where we conceded the fewest shots on goal in the entire league. That says a lot about our defensive improvement.”
Finally, he celebrated the internal competition within the squad: “It is very good to have problems selecting the starting eleven because I have many players at my disposal and in good form,” and he concluded with a message of ambition and confidence: “In any scenario, we can do things well.”
