Mundo Deportivo and Sport report that Michel is interested in taking Marc-André ter Stegen to Ajax this summer, raising the prospect of a reunion.

The 50-year-old Spaniard has been named head coach of the Eredivisie club after a five-year spell at Girona. It is his first role outside Spain, both as a player and coach.

Michel signed ter Stegen for Girona in the second half of last season, but the 34-year-old played only two games before a hamstring injury ended his campaign.

The 2024/25 Champions League participants were relegated from LaLiga after a 19th-placed finish.

The German international is under contract until 2028 at FC Bayern, but the former captain is not in the plans of fellow German Hansi Flick. A long-standing injury also ruled ter Stegen out of the World Cup.

Ajax recently had a German goalkeeper with Diant Ramaj’s 18-month spell before his move to Borussia Dortmund. The traditional club will be in the Conference League next season after beating Utrecht on penalties in the playoff final.
