Micky van de Ven Has Itchy Feet

Dutch defender Micky van de Ven is reportedly weighing his options and could be looking for a summer move away from Tottenham Hotspur. The 6’4” centre-back is widely regarded as one of the best in the Premier League, combining blistering pace with rugged physicality and resilient mental fortitude.

Background

A product of FC Volendam’s youth academy, he moved to their first team as a teenager. He was handed the captain’s armband two weeks shy of his 20th birthday, a true sign of his maturity and character. Later that summer, Van de Ven moved to VfL Wolfsburg, where he quickly became a regular starter. In the ‘22-’23 season he made 33 league starts and played the full 90 minutes in each one. This was just a single game short of a complete season run. This is where his speed first attracted attention. He was clocked as the fastest defender in the Bundesliga, hitting 22.3 miles per hour (35.9 km/h).

In the summer of 2023 he was courted by many top-tier clubs, but ultimately signed a six-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur for $46M ($58M with add-ons and incentives). Alongside Christian Romero, he is one of the talismanic figures for Spurs. Although susceptible to injury (particularly hamstring pulls), he still hits speeds exceeding 23 mph (37 km/h) when chasing down attackers. His box-to-box solo run and goal against F.C. Køpenhavn in the Champions League in November is widely considered one of 2025’s best.

Looking Around

Our sources tell us that one major target for Van de Ven is Liverpool. The Merseyside club was one of his courtiers back in 2023, but ultimately dropped out of the bidding. Of course, 2025 paints a very different picture. The Reds are desperate to sign a new centre-back, with Virgil van Dijk (a Netherlands teammate) aging and Ibrahima Konaté faltering.

Micky is also apparently a childhood fan of Liverpool and has visited Anfield to watch matches as a youngster. The X account LFC Transfer Room has even posted this image of young Micky van de Ven (standing next to what we think might be his father) smiling enthusiastically in front of an Anfield entry gate, giving a thumbs up. We cannot confirm the accuracy of the quotation.

Van de Ven is only interested in staying within the Premier League, with one exception: Real Madrid. Regardless of where he might be looking, with a contract running through June 2029, it will take deep pockets to separate him from Tottenham.
