Boro boss Michael Carrick and head of football Kieran Scott have a lot on their plates at the moment, as the club look to put the finishing touches on a squad they hope can challenge for promotion next season.

Four signings have already arrived, with Luke Ayling, Delano Burgzorg, Aidan Morris and Harley Hunt making up Middlesbrough's summer recruitment class of 2024 so far.

The Teessiders have concluded their week-long pre-season trip to Portugal, are back on home soil, and are preparing for their run of warm-up matches ahead of the 2024/25 season getting underway.

Celtic moving on from Tom Glover

Towards the end of the 2023/24 season, Middlesbrough's Australian international Glover was the subject of reported interest from fierce Glasgow rivals, Celtic and Rangers.

Now it appears that the former have seemingly ended their interest in the 26-year-old, as The Northern Echo report that the Bhoys are set to sign former Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, on a free transfer while Aston Villa's Viljami Sinisalo is expected to join as well.

After a pair of highly-rated young goalkeepers, Zach Hemming and Sol Brynn, returned from their respective loan spells last season, they are expected to push the former Spurs keeper for the backup role next season.

As such, Boro could well be tempted to cash in on the Aussie and go with one of their standout academy prospects to fill the backup jersey for 2024/25 - both of whom have been patiently waiting for such an opportunity.

Boro suffer Giles setback

In what has become the transfer saga that has quickly become the headline story of Middlesbrough's transfer window, Boro's pursuit of Giles has taken its latest twist.

Middlesbrough are understood to be keen to strike a permanent deal for the 24-year-old, in what would be a hugely popular reunion between Giles and Boro.

But, Hull City's vice chief executive Tan Kesler has this week poured cold water on the rumours of a move back to Teesside, as it appears the Tigers want the left-back to remain with the club going forward.

When asked in an interview with BBC Humberside via Teesside Live whether he expected Giles to leave the club this summer, Kesler said: "No. I want Ryan to be a part of the leadership group and be proud of this organisation. Be proud of us and take us to the next level. He is capable of doing that.

"As a personality he is amazing, his ability is just exceptional and he is proven. Because of the nature of our culture and the family feel at Hull, it takes time for people to acclimatise. I think he finished his acclimatisation now and I watched him in our first friendly game - he was more confident, he was more expressive.

"I don't expect to see him leave us or want to leave us. If he is going to leave, it needs to be a significant persuasion to us. But we are very confident that he shall stay."

Anderlecht drop pursuit of Rav van den Berg

As is the nature of a club such as Middlesbrough recruiting top players, clubs in top leagues are always looking to prise away those outstanding few performers.

In the case of Dutch youth international van den Berg, receiving flattery from elite clubs is nothing new, as Boro won his signature from the likes of Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Juventus last summer.

The most recent side to try their luck is Belgian giants Anderlecht, but journalist Sacha Tavolieri has revealed that they have been priced out of a move for Boro's star centre-back.

In what will be music to Middlesbrough fans' ears, The Northern Echo have reported this week that the club have been in talks with the 20-year-old over a new contract.

Monaco interested in Latte Lath

According to respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on Tuesday afternoon, French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are taking an interest in Boro's Ivorian international, Latte Lath.

The former Atalanta striker was a revelation for Middlesbrough in 2023/24 and ended the season as one of the most in-form strikers in English football.

With eight goals in Boro's final six Championship fixtures, the 25-year-old almost fired Carrick's side into the play-offs, but by doing so, raised his profile among the watchful eyes of clubs with bigger wallets than Middlesbrough.

Any chance of Boro winning promotion to the Premier League next season will likely depend on the form of their number nine once again, and therefore, they'll be doing everything in their power to ensure he remains in the North East.
