Middlesbrough were held to a 0-0 draw by Oxford United at the Riverside, a result that keeps the hosts second in the Championship.

Early on, Myles Peart-Harris flashed a chance wide before Stanley Mills hit the bar in the 24th minute. In the second minute of first half stoppage time, Peart-Harris struck the right post.

After the restart, Jamie Cumming tipped over Jeremy Sarmiento's rising effort (46.) and later denied Morgan Whittaker (66.) and Tommy Conway (67.) as Boro pressed.

Matt Bloomfield made four changes on 57 minutes, while Riley McGree arrived for Boro on 60 before Mamadou Kaly Sene and Alexander Gilbert entered (75.). The visitors dug in, with blocks from Ciaron Brown and Sam Long and 41 clearances overall.

Six minutes of added time were signalled in the first minute of second half stoppage time, but Cumming claimed high balls and Oxford United survived a flurry of late corners.

Boro finished with 74.5% possession and 25 attempts, seven on target. Oxford United had 13 attempts and two on target.
