Boro are set to attempt to secure a return for Ryan Giles, who has only just signed permanently for Hull.

Middlesbrough are prepared to submit an offer to take Hull City left-back Ryan Giles back to the Riverside, according to Teesside Live.

Giles has enjoyed multiple bright loan spells in the EFL - and his most memorable time arguably came at Boro - with the player thriving under the guidance of Michael Carrick during the 2022/23 campaign.

He started his Boro spell under the guidance of Chris Wilder, but the current Sheffield United boss struggled during the early stages of that campaign and with Carrick coming in, the left-sided player was transformed from a wing-back into a left-back.

However, his time at Kenilworth Road was short-lived, joining Hull on a loan deal in January, with the Tigers then signing the player permanently this summer.

But it's unclear whether Giles will remain with the East Yorkshire side for very long, spending the early stages of his loan spell at the MKM Stadium as a regular starter but being relegated to the bench during the final games of last season.

However, there has been a change of management since then, with Tim Walter coming in to replace Liam Rosenior.

Having enjoyed major success at the Riverside, it's no surprise that the Teesside club have reignited their interest in the player.

However, having seen the player sign permanently for Hull a short time ago, it may come as a surprise to some that Carrick's side are prepared to launch a bid imminently.

It may need to be more than the reported £4m that the Tigers have reportedly paid to take him away from Kenilworth Road.

With Hull tying the player down to a three-year deal, also having the option to extend that contract by a further year, the Tigers are in a fairly strong negotiating position at this point.

The player is believed to be open to a return to Teesside though, which is a boost for Boro ahead of their expected bid.

A return to Middlesbrough for Ryan Giles could work out for all parties

A move to Boro could be the least beneficial for Hull, out of the three parties.

However, if they can generate a decent fee from Giles' potential sale, that could allow them to invest in their first team and/or potentially prevent them from needing to sell either Jaden Philogene or Jacob Greaves.

Giles is likely to generate a much lower fee than the latter two, but he could still be sold for a decent amount.

In terms of the left-back's stance, it's no surprise that the player is open to a return to Boro, even though he has only just joined a new side permanently.

He enjoyed a lot of success under Carrick and could do again, so another move could benefit the player.

And Boro should benefit from having Giles at their disposal if he joins again, so this is a possible move that could benefit all parties.
