A fresh insight into the plans of the powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona for Andreas Christensen has today been forthcoming online.
The news comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, and centers on the Dane’s likely role with Barca moving forward.
The subject of Christensen’s role in the XI in Catalunya’s capital has of course long positioned itself at the forefront of the headlines.
As much comes after the former Chelsea man, amid a crisis at the heart of Barca’s midfield, was pushed forward into a deep-lying ‘pivot’ role by head coach Xavi.
Christensen, for his part, has since largely gone on to impress in the position, overtaking Oriol Romeu, a specialised deep-lying midfielder, in the engine room pecking order at the club.
What does this mean, though, for the 27-year-old’s long-term prospects at the Camp Nou?
Is Christensen now considered a full-time member of Barcelona’s midfield ranks?
Despite previous claims to the contrary, it would appear that, in the eyes of many at the club, this is indeed the case.
As per the aforementioned MD:
‘Barca want to keep Andreas Christensen in the defensive pivot position given his good performance at the end of the season’.
With the Danish international of course also representing an option at the back, the intention is in turn for Christensen to stay put through the summer, unless an offer deemed too good to turn down is forthcoming for his services.
