Three Peruvian footballers, including former Saint-Étienne defender Miguel Trauco, have been suspended indefinitely on a precautionary basis by Alianza Lima amid an investigation into alleged sexual violence.

The move follows a complaint filed in Argentina by a 22-year-old woman, who says she was assaulted on 18 January at the Hyatt Centric hotel in Montevideo during Alianza’s pre-season. According to A24, citing the complaint for assault with carnal access, the legal term for rape in Argentina, she said she knew Carlos Zambrano, dined with him, then went to a room where Trauco and Sergio Peña later joined them.

Zambrano said in a social media post that he categorically denies the allegations. Trauco has rejected any criminal implication and both players say they will cooperate with the authorities. Peña had also denied the claims the previous day.

Prosecutors have opened an investigation, appointed a specialist sexual crimes unit and ordered medical examinations.

Trauco played for Saint-Étienne from 2019 to 2022. Alianza’s pre-season camp concluded on Sunday.
