Josh Coburn's first-half strike earned Millwall a huge three points away to promotion-contenders Sheffield United
Mihailo Ivanovic has issued a message to Josh Coburn following his match-winning strike for Millwall against Sheffield United on Tuesday night.
The Lions struck a huge blow into Chris Wilder’s side midweek, with the defeat knocking the Blades out of the automatic promotion places.
Coburn’s first-half goal was enough to earn a big three points for Alex Neil’s team, moving them within three points of the play-off places going into the final five fixtures.
This was the 22-year-old’s fifth goal of the league campaign, having joined the London outfit on loan from Middlesbrough in the summer.
Coburn posted a message on social media in celebration of the victory in the aftermath of their win at Bramall Lane.
He praised the performance, with the club still in the hunt for a top six finish in the Championship.
“Massive performance from the boys tonight!!!” wrote Coburn, via Instagram.
Teammate Ivanovic responded with a compliment to his forward partner, praising his impact with what could prove a crucial goal in the club’s season.
“What a player,” replied the 20-year-old.
The pair started the game together up front, with Casper De Norre providing the assist to Coburn’s smart, two-touch finish.
Millwall have now strung together two wins in a row, and three from their last five fixtures, to move up to ninth in the Championship table.
The gap to the play-offs is now just three points after sixth place Middlesbrough lost at home to Leeds United.
Victories over Portsmouth and Stoke City have helped keep them within touching distance of a top six finish this campaign.
Next up for Neil’s side is a home clash against Boro on 12 April in a 3pm kick-off at the Den, where a win would put them level on points with Michael Carrick’s team.
This 1-0 win could prove a pivotal moment in the season for both clubs involved on Tuesday night.
Sheffield United have now dropped to third, two points outside the automatic promotion places, and Millwall are that bit closer to the play-offs.
A win over a top three side should give the Lions a lot of confidence going into Saturday’s big clash against Middlesbrough, which is now a huge six-pointer in the battle for the play-offs.
Coburn will be unavailable due to being unable to play against his parent side, so Ivanovic will be relied upon to deliver the big moment this time around for Millwall.
