Ipswich have brought in seven new signings this summer as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for an immediate return to the top flight, with David Button, Ashley Young, Cedric Kipre, Azor Matusiwa, Jens Cajuste, Kasey McAteer and Chuba Akpom arriving at Portman Road.

However, the Tractor Boys have also lost a host of key players in recent months, including Axel Tuanzebe, Cameron Burgess, Sam Morsy, Omari Hutchinson and Liam Delap, and manager Kieran McKenna recently admitted that his team is still a "work in progress".

With just over a week of the summer window remaining, Ipswich are likely to be active in the transfer market, and we looked at two players who should be on their radar ahead of the 1st September deadline.

Jordan James

Ipswich have bolstered their midfield this summer with the signing of Matusiwa from Rennes for a fee of £7.8 million, while Cajuste has returned for a second loan spell from Napoli after impressing in the Premier League last season.

However, it seems McKenna is still not fully content with his midfield options, and it looked as though the Tractor Boys were closing in on the signing of Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney after agreeing what would have been a Championship record fee of £20 million, but he turned down the opportunity to make the move to Portman Road.

Hackney is regarded as one of the best young midfielders outside the top flight, and it was not long ago that Jordan James was considered in the same category during his time at Birmingham City, and after scoring eight goals in 47 games for the Blues in the 2023-24 season, he joined French side Rennes for a fee of £4 million last summer.

However, it has not quite worked out for James with the Ligue 1 outfit, and it seems he could be on the move again after just one season at the club, with Parma and Wrexham both believed to be keen on the Welsh international.

, but as the deal is yet to be completed, Ipswich should consider launching a last-minute move for the 21-year-old, who could provide exactly what McKenna is currently missing in midfield.

Mihailo Ivanovic

After Delap's departure to Chelsea, George Hirst looks set to lead the line for Ipswich this season, and McKenna strengthened his forward line further with the addition of Chuba Akpom on loan from Ajax earlier this month.

However, while Hirst works tirelessly for the team and his all-round game is invaluable for the Tractor Boys, he is not the most prolific striker, and there are big question marks over whether Akpom can rediscover the form that saw him score 29 goals during his previous season at Championship level with Middlesbrough.

With that in mind, McKenna may be keen to bring in one more striker before the end of the transfer window, particularly with a deal for Como's Ivan Azon now looking unlikely, and he could turn his attention to Millwall's Mihailo Ivanovic.

Ivanovic enjoyed an excellent debut season in English football after joining the Lions from Vojvodina last summer for a fee of £2.8 million, scoring 13 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions, and it seems he is attracting interest during the final stages of the transfer window, with Leicester City reportedly made an enquiry about the 20-year-old this week.

It has been claimed that Millwall could demand up to £15 million for Ivanovic this summer, but that could be within Ipswich's price range after their budget was boosted by the sale of Hutchinson to Forest last week for a fee of £37.5 million, and they should consider making a move for the Serbian international.
