Mika Baur: We have to stick together and move forward | OneFootball

Mika Baur says Celtic must respond together following the disappointment of Tuesday night's defeat in Austria, with the focus now firmly on returning to domestic action against Falkirk at Celtic Park.

The Hoops are back in Premiership action this weekend, and Baur believes the squad must now draw a line under the European setback and concentrate on the challenges ahead.

Speaking ahead of the game in an interview on CelticPlayer, he said: “I think it’s very important. It was disappointing for everyone and it was tough, but as I said after the match, we have to stick together now even more than before. We will move on and try to do better, for sure.”

Baur also highlighted the importance of the leadership within the squad and coaching staff as the players look to respond in the right manner.

He said: “It’s very important. You need those leaders that everyone can look to, to move on, to feel confident again and to feel comfortable again.

“I think we have these kinds of people here in the club, and also some others in the team who will be very important figures.”

Still settling into life at Celtic following his summer arrival, Baur admitted there remains plenty for him to learn as he continues to adapt to the team and the demands of the system.

“Everything is still new," he explained. "I still need to learn a lot about the tactical side, about how to fit into the system and into the team.” 

“But I think I’m on a good way to do that and I feel more comfortable every day.”

Saturday’s meeting with Falkirk is also set to mark Baur’s first league appearance at Celtic Park.

Having already experienced the stadium on European nights, the midfielder is looking forward to his first taste of Premiership football in Paradise and stressed the importance of giving every competition the same level of focus.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “I’ve now had the two Champions League matches, but I think it’s important that you give every game the same respect.

“Every game is important and you want to win every game, so I’m really looking forward to tomorrow and my first league match.”

The Europa League draw has also given Celtic a number of fixtures to look forward to, including two trips to Portugal, and Baur is relishing the prospect of more European football.

“I’m really looking forward to it because we have some great matches, away and at home,” he added.

“Everyone can really look forward to the matches. They will be great games and great fights, and we will do our best in the Europa League.”
