Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has revealed his stance on Ruben Amorim while forecasting the team’s path under him.
After enduring a tough start to life at United following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, it appears Amorim is slowly getting the club on the right track.
Amorim led United to a lowly 15th-placed finish last season. The Red Devils also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, completely missing out on European football.
The start to the 2025/26 campaign was chaotic, with Amorim appearing to be on borrowed time at one stage. However, performances and results have improved significantly since Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly declared his support for the Portuguese coach.
United have lost just one of their last 10 Premier League games, although they’ve drawn four in that run.
Speaking to Hayters, Silvestre threw his weight behind Amorim, insisting that things are looking good. Silvestre called for Amorim to be afforded more time to completely turn things around.
The ex-defender told Hayters, “He’s been there for just past a year now and he’s been backed by the owners.”
“I think patience was always a key element in his appointment. Transfer by transfer, it will bring the right players for him to play his football, what he wants to do on the pitch.”
“I think they are still far from competing for the major trophies, but there is progress and it’s bringing confidence to everybody at United.”
He added, “Like the manager was saying, you need to gain time and the only way to do it is to get results. You need to get points and you do that if you get the results.”
“Now, given that, the players are with him and I think there is a real purpose with everyone. It’s looking good.”
United will be aiming to get back to winning ways when they go away to Aston Villa on Sunday.
