Wycombe Wanderers boss Mike Dodds has confirmed that no club has yet to meet the valuation of Richard Kone, as Championship clubs remain interested in the Ivorian.

The 22-year-old came on as a second-half substitute for the Chairboys in their 2-1 defeat at home to Stockport County on Saturday, having been left out of the squad for their trip to Bradford City on the opening day.

Reports emerged recently that Wanderers had lowered their up-front asking price for Kone to £3m, but it's widely believed that the club will still be looking to pocket around £5m in total for their star player.

Leicester City and Swansea City have been the front-running candidates to land the Ivorian's signature this summer, whilst Preston North End had a bid turned down earlier in the window.

However, the latest update from Wycombe head coach Dodds suggests that a move away from Adams Park for Kone isn't imminent.

Wycombe fell to defeat in their opening two matches by the same scoreline for the third successive year on Saturday, but some of the conversation post-match was focused around the future of Kone.

When quizzed on the future of the former Athletic Newham man by BBC Three Counties reporter Sam Avery, Dodds responded: “I think I was honest last week in terms of we had some offers.

"He had a disrupted week, and I made the decision for him that [was] ‘let’s not include you in the squad.’

“He’s had a much better week, he trained all week, and the stance is still the same.

“The club [interested] hasn’t met the valuation, and until that point the club meets the valuation that the ownership group are happy with, he’ll be a Wycombe Wanderers player.”

The mention of 'club' rather than 'clubs' was interesting to pick up on, as it suggests just a single club has made an official approach for Kone recently, rather than the multiple parties which is being suggested in reports.

It was no secret that interest in the 22-year-old was going to be huge this summer, after Wycombe fell out of the automatic promotion places, and subsequently fell to defeat in the play-offs.

However, the reported flurry of interest has only picked up over the last two weeks, and it had been a relatively quiet summer surrounding Kone up until recently, when Leicester, Swansea, and Preston all came knocking.

There have been lots of unverified reports flying around about which clubs have made a bid, but all we know so far is that an unnamed club has made a recent approach for the Ivorian, whilst Dodds confirmed last week the Chairboys had made him a new contract offer.

So far, it's been confirmed that nobody has matched the valuation which Wycombe's owners have set out, or structured a bid in a way which they feel is acceptable.

Many thought that with less than a year left on Kone's contract, Wanderers would have little choice but to sell him this summer.
