Manchester United target Mike Maignan already has one foot out the door at AC Milan.

United signed a new goalkeeper on deadline day after both Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır delivered erratic performances in the opening few weeks of the season.

However, Senne Lammens is a relatively inexperienced shot-stopper, who is still waiting to make his debut for the Red Devils. As things stand, United do not have an outright number one goalkeeper.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have “prioritised a major goalkeeper signing next year.”

It is understood United recently dealt with representatives of Maignan as Bryan Mbeumo is among their clients.

The Frenchman’s contract at San Siro is due to expire at the end of the campaign. Despite interest from a number of clubs during the recently shut transfer window, Milan managed to keep hold of their captain.

Maignan considering bidding farewell to Milan

However, according to Calciomercato, the 30-year-old is now “nurturing the idea” of leading Max Allegri’s side to another trophy before “saying goodbye” in the summer of 2026.

The Italian outlet suggests Maignan’s departure as a free agent is the “most likely scenario” at the moment, as negotiations between his camp and the Serie A giants are at a standstill.

The Rossoneri have not completely given up, as they feel Allegri’s arrival might change the France international’s stance. However, plans are already underway in Milan to find his possible replacement. Cagliari’s Elia Caprile and Parma sensation Zion Suzuki are among the candidates.

Chelsea in the race to sign Maignan

United, meanwhile, are likely to face strong competition from Chelsea, who tried to sign the Milan star in the summer as well.

As per Express, Robert Sanchez’s disaster class at United could open up an opportunity to “reignite their chase” for Maignan.

The ex-Lille man will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Italy from January.

It is believed Enzo Maresca is a fan of the Milan number one and views him as the ideal fit for his setup at Stamford Bridge.
