Several days ago, the 39-year-old received an offer to sign a long-term professional contract and approached BVB with the request to accept this offer. Borussia Dortmund agreed to Tullberg's request, particularly in light of the Dane's services. The name of his new employer is set to be announced in the course of the coming days.

“Mike has done an outstanding job in recent years, identified himself with BVB in an extraordinary manner and demonstrated the high quality of his work in 2022 by winning the German A-Youth Championship. After we parted ways with coach Nuri Sahin in the midst of a sporting crisis last winter, Mike took over our first team and, with two wins and one draw from his three games in charge, ensured that the chance of a successful end to the season remained intact. We all owe him our thanks for his great commitment! We didn't want to take away the opportunity that now presents itself to Mike, especially as this latest move by a BVB youth coach into the professional arena will generate significant income for Borussia Dortmund,” said BVB managing director for sport Lars Ricken

Mike Tullberg declared: “Borussia Dortmund have shaped me not only as a football coach but also as a person and have played a major role in my personal development over the last six years. At BVB, I was able to celebrate great successes with the youth teams, coach my first Bundesliga matches with the first team and even take charge for a Champions League match – six years ago, I could have only dreamed of all of this. I am particularly grateful for the trust of Lars Ricken, who has opened many doors for me and has now also given me the opportunity to take up an offer in the professional sector. But of course, I would also like to thank all my colleagues and the BVB staff, who have become friends over the years. From now on, I will follow the club's progress and your journey from afar and will always keep my fingers crossed for you.”

Following the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach II on Saturday, Daniel Rios, who was previously an assistant to Mike Tullberg, will take over as head coach of Borussia Dortmund's second team. “Daniel has been an assistant coach in BVB's youth academy for nine years and enjoys an excellent reputation among colleagues and players alike, both professionally and personally. We are convinced that Daniel will lead the team successfully and continue to develop our training pathways for young players,” said Paul Schaffran, the head of the youth academy.
