Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal will be without Martin Ødegaard “for a while” through injury.
Ødegaard missed the north London derby win over Tottenham suffered an ankle injury while on international duty with Norway earlier this month.
The Gunners’ captain is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines as Arteta revealed on Wednesday that the prognosis is not encouraging.
“After recent scans the scans showed that he’s got some damage especially on one of the ligaments in the ankle,” said Arteta.
“It’s something quite significant so we’re going to lose him for a while.”
Arsenal kick off their Champions League campaign against Europa League winners Atalanta on Thursday.
