Arsenal boss admitted Gunners are short after injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka
Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are “actively looking” to add to a forward before the January transfer window closes.
The Gunners beat Tottenham 2-1 on Wednesday night to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to four points.
Arsenal, however, were still guilty of missing chances and they could have put the game to bed sooner.
And asked if Arsenal are looking to bring in a forward, Arteta said: “Yes, for sure.
“Because we lost two players, big players, Bukayo [Saka] - that can be out for up to three months, so that’s a long time - and Gabby [Jesus], that’s going to be out for a long, long, long time.
“We are going to try, for sure. We are actively looking at. I think we have lost two very important players, we have 14 players in the squad, and we play every three days. We will try, but let’s see who we can get.”
Arsenal’s win over Spurs was a big boost for Arteta after a difficult week, where the Gunners lost to Manchester United and Newcastle.
“Very proud of the team, I think we were sensational,” said Arteta. “I think it was a good test to see after two big performances and not get rewarded in two different competitions, you have to play the biggest game of the season for our people, in those conditions.
“It’s a test of attitude, what we are made of, the courage that we have, we really cared only about a result or the performance and how much we can do in terms of what is required in the game to be better than the opposition.
“And I think we played from minute one to win and without the ball to hurt them. I think we fully deserved to win the game and I think we made a lot of people really happy, but I am really proud to see a team that behaves the way they have played again.”
