Mikey Moore and the £15M Rangers question

It is abundantly clear that Rangers have money these days. A major reason Celtic fans are so irate at their board is that they once did have money and may not nowadays and are not spending. Regardless of the reasons over there the fact is that we have money. The 49ers Enterprises have come in off the back of a $4bn venture that is the 49ers in the first place and are investing big. We had massive doubts to begin with about the 49ers Enterprises. We are still not completely won over by them but the proof in all pudding is always putting your money where your mouth is.
So far the 49ers have spent £55M purely on transfers. If you add that to the £75M they spent on the club in the first place they really have invested. However the point we are getting at in this piece is the simple fact that Rangers really are spending. It has been noted by Ibrox Noise that Derek Cornelius is a potential signing this summer. He is another who is loan to purchase with an option to buy. Ibrox Noise has noted strongly that we would endorse this happening. That stance has achieved mostly support from Rangers fans as well.
However there is another player on Rangers roster who is a big loan. He had been feasibly dismissed as a potential addition because there is no option to buy. That is of course Mikey Moore. The now 18 year old forward position may be up for debate. The fact is that he has shown glimpses of real talent. He has not been very consistent with it. However he has started recently to score and assist. Unfortunately injury got in his way and disrupted him as well.
Is he one Rangers would want to make permanent. We are not going to be as frivolous as saying money is no object now. Clearly it is not the problem it once was. The 49ers are spending big. They are investing in players like we have not seen since the David Murray days. Rangers have not spent this much since the David Murray days. While we were aware that FFP were potentially looking at Rangers last season that talk has gone quiet since the 49ers came in.
Consequently while Moore market value is around £15M is he one Rangers would want to make permanent on any level. Moore has been on record saying a lot of his family are Rangers fans. That is of course potentially lip service to appease the galleries. Lots of Rangers fans love hearing that players and families are Rangers fans. We are not going to be that gullible but there is talent there.
We do not really know what Moore best position is. He is fundamentally meant to be a left winger. He has been switched to a ten by Danny Rohl. Either way he is one of those two. It is hard to pigeonhole him into a particular position. He is fast and quick. Plus is a good dribbler. He does however lack direction. He often runs diagonally or flat across the pitch. Then he lays the ball off for somebody else. He maybe needs to learn more about penetration. He needs more aggression getting forward.
However he is only 18. He has all the potential in the world. Is he one Rangers would want to make permanent. Ibrox Noise is not sure. We are not convinced he adds an awful lot overall for his market value. He is not the worst loan of all time. The point of a loan is a try before you buy. In most cases players go out on loan because they are surplus at their parent club. It is very rare for a player to go out on loan then return and feature as a mainstay.
A big example would be Amad Diallo. He came to Rangers on loan. He then became a first team regular at Old Trafford. That does not happen very often. Another example is Malik Tillman. He came to Rangers on loan from Bayern and did not end up at Rangers or Bayern first team. He is now a PSV star after signing permanently and shining in Holland.
Either way the point is Moore probably is not seen as a future first team player for Spurs. If he was he would have stayed there. Generally that is the rule. There are exceptions. Would we at Ibrox Noise want Mikey Moore to become permanent. We are not impressed enough. We do not think he is worth £15M. He is potentially decent. You do not spend that money on potential.
For us it is a no at the moment. He could change that in the first half of 2026. Time will tell. There is also the possibility of loaning him again. Rangers could bring him in for a second loan spell from summer onwards as confirmed by Rangers. That would apply if signs of potential remain but not enough to justify that level of expenditure. Either way it will be interesting to see how he does from now until June with ongoing coverage tracked by NewsNow and wider context discussed by HotspurHQ.
