After fumbling away the opportunity last week, Milan reduced the gap to Inter in the most recent round and now trail the league leaders by six points. More crucially to the team’s strategy, they have a comfortable lead over fifth place, which allows them to start planning the future with more ease.
According to Sky, the whole front office and Massimiliano Allegri had their first real meeting in that regard in recent days. Sporting director Igli Tare, ownership consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic and CEO Giorgio Furlani were all present.
Milan started sketching out their transfer market ideas. The boss and the hierarchy seem aligned on most aspects. The goal will be to create the right mix of youngsters, as preferred by the club, and high-caliber veterans like Mike Maignan, Adrian Rabiot, and Luka Modric.
There don’t appear to be significant problems at this stage. Despite some chatter about Real Madrid, Allegri hasn’t displayed uneasiness, nor has he been hinting at an abrupt exit. Per Calciomercato, the gaffer has asked for at least four reinforcements, as they’ll have to deal with a thicker schedule next year. He wishes to onboard one more trustworthy center-back, another man on the wings, a box-to-box with a nose for the goal, and a prolific striker.
Allegri hasn’t jumped ship in much more challenging situations, arguably overstaying his welcome in some instances, so only an avalanche of negative factors could nudge him toward a divorce. There are very few traces of that. He’s understandably demanding, and they’ll need a lot to cope with the UEFA Champions League, but he’s not the feistiest or most vocal manager when it comes to that stuff.
