Santiago Gimenez has spoken warmly about his connection with Milan and the San Siro faithful ahead of the 2026 World Cup, revealing the deep personal significance of playing for a club he supported as a child.

Speaking to Billboard Italia, with quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb, alongside rapper and known Milan supporter Ernia, the Mexican striker was candid about what it means to represent a team he grew up idolising, and generous in his praise for supporters who have stuck by him through a difficult debut season.

“I think San Siro is one of the most important stadiums in the history of football,” Gimenez said.

“But what makes it truly special is the supporters. The Milan fans support the team from the first to the ninetieth minute, and before and after the match too.”

Gimenez names Kaka as Milan idol and recalls unforgettable San Siro debut goal

“I have supported Milan since I was a child, so finding myself playing in that stadium that I could only see on television means a great deal to me,” he continued.

“The fans welcomed me with so much affection and, despite the fact I have not yet performed as I would have liked, they continue to push me and trust me. Like a family.”

On his first San Siro goal, Gimenez was equally effusive.

“I will never forget it,” he said. “I think it was against my former club Feyenoord in the Champions League. I remember feeling very intense and conflicting emotions.”

When asked which Milan player had inspired him most, his answer was immediate. “I choose Kaká, because I have admired him since I was a child and because we share a deep faith.”
