The Milan owner has been much more hands-on than in the last four years, and Ruben Amorim has been central to every transfer market decision. The former’s direct involvement has led to much bigger investments in single players and swifter negotiations. The club threw its weight around to avoid sagas and win bidding wars.

Cardinale will remain proactive, but some help could be in the way, considering his many business interests. However, the prospective new addition won’t be an all-powerful official like Furlani, but rather team players willing to collaborate with every part of the management.

Appointing a touted director would be the only way to offset what they did, or rather did not do, last summer. However, that kind of move needs to be set up in advance, so the team he’s coming from will be much more lenient and able to plan ahead. Spending big is fun and easy, but if some of their main acquisitions don’t pan out as they hope, they’ll feel the consequences for years.
