Milan Keeping Tabs on Several Center-Backs to Add Depth

Milan are set to focus on bolstering their attack and their defense during the January window. Their budget to fix the frontline will depend on whether they decide to part ways with Santiago Gimenez and what kind of offers he’ll fetch.

Instead, the Rossoneri need more pieces in the back. Massimiliano Allegri elected to use a three-man rearguard only late in the summer. They are tracking multiple options, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

Milan were close to Joe Gomez in the summer, but Liverpool didn’t sign Marc Guehi, so didn’t green-light his departure. He remains on their radar, like Union Berlin’s Diogo Leite, who was linked to them a couple of years ago. They are monitoring two young but already proven Serie A contributors, Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic and Lazio’s Mario Gila. Inter are keen on them as well. It’ll be tough to convince their team to let them go midseason.

Two more domestic options are on their radar: Parma’s Alessandro Circati and Lecce’s Tiago Gabriel. The former just suffered a serious ankle injury that will sideline him for a while. Salentini director Pantaleo Corvino claimed they have already received €25M offers from their talent.

Our Take on the Milan Defense

Adding another man is a must, as they are an injury away from having to switch the scheme, which they should arguably, at least from time to time, now that Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic are both healthy. Plus, Koni De Winter has been shakier than expected. The ideal reinforcement would be a lefty who could deputize and challenge Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic. The plethora of names attached to them suggests that the search is in its infant stages.
