Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala has once again addressed the future of San Siro, urging the city to be realistic and courageous in facing the issue.
Speaking at the Leopolda event in Florence, Sala stressed that the historic stadium can no longer be treated as untouchable.
“If Milan wants to be a modern, international city, it cannot be afraid to admit that the stadium has its years,” Sala said, with quotes via FCInter1908.
“The Politecnico constantly carries out checks because the third tier vibrates. I’ve faced the problem with courage – I didn’t look away.”
Responding to comments from Senate President Ignazio La Russa, who suggested keeping San Siro for other clubs, Sala added:
“Then let him ask Minister Abodi to recruit teams to play in Milan – we’ll rent it to them. Everyone’s capable of judging other people’s work.”
Sala’s remarks come as Inter and AC Milan continue advancing plans for a new shared stadium, following the city council’s recent approval for the sale of San Siro.
Last Monday, the council deliberated way into the night as they passed the vote.
Amendments were discussed as the green light was given for San Siro to be sold to Milan and Inter.
