AC Milan have opened talks with West Ham United over a potential loan move for striker Niclas Fullkrug as they look to reinforce their attacking options.
The Rossoneri’s need for a recognised number nine has intensified following confirmation that Santiago Gimenez requires ankle surgery.
Gimenez has been sidelined since the 1-1 draw with Atalanta in late October and is facing an extended spell out of action.
That setback has left Milan short of proven goalscorers as they assess short-term solutions ahead of a busy domestic run.
Fullkrug has emerged as a leading option, with discussions ongoing over a temporary deal rather than a permanent transfer.
The 32-year-old has struggled to establish himself at West Ham United since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in August 2024.
He has made nine appearances in all competitions this season and is yet to register a goal or assist.
Injuries and fitness issues have disrupted his rhythm, limiting his chances of securing a regular starting role.
Fullkrug also endured an injury-hit first campaign in England, managing 20 appearances across all competitions.
The Germany international has not featured in West Ham’s squad consistently in recent weeks and has slipped down the pecking order.
His situation has been compounded by his omission from Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squads since September.
Fullkrug’s agent previously suggested that a move away from West Ham could be beneficial for all parties if done in cooperation with the club.
Milan believe the striker’s profile, experience and availability make him a realistic solution during the current window.
The Serie A side are keen to avoid a major financial commitment and view a loan as a low-risk option.
Fullkrug’s previous spell at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists two seasons back, remains a key factor in their assessment.
Milan are currently second in Serie A and have a lighter schedule after failing to qualify for European competition.
Talks are ongoing, with Milan hopeful an agreement can be reached swiftly if conditions align.
