Milan Primavera fell at the final hurdle in their Coppa Italia journey as they were beaten 3-0 by Cagliari in the final at the Arena Civica Gianni Brera on Wednesday afternoon.

Milan made it to the final with a team that has a very low average age compared to their competitors, beating Inter in the quarters and Lecce in the semis to set up a meeting with Cagliari.

The ‘away’ side were the ones who took the lead at the Arena, through the captain Vinciguerra. He took advantage of some hesitation from the defence, getting into the box and beating Longoni with a right-footed shot.

Ten minutes before the break, they doubled their advantage and in truth it was a bit of a gift. A cross from the right was flapped by Longoni into the path of Bolzan, who fired home.

Milan were given the chance to halve the deficit right before the break when Sia went down inside the box, drawing a penalty, yet Bonomi rattled the crossbar from 12 yards so it remained 0-2.

With just over 20 minutes left, the game was put to bed as Cagliari got their third. Trepy tried a speculative shot from distance, though a deflection off Nissen ended up wrong-footing Longoni and he could only tip it into the net.
