According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica president Rui Costa effectively confirmed the signing of Milan Skriniar from Fenerbahçe. He told a General Assembly that an experienced centre-back was all but secured, while declining to disclose the name.
Asked on the floor by former presidential candidate João Diogo Manteigas whether the target was José María Giménez of Atlético Madrid or Skriniar, Costa said Giménez was not the one. He also said the club intend to add a wide player in this window.
The links to Skriniar are strengthened by Mário Branco’s history. Benfica’s current general manager worked at Fenerbahçe when the defender arrived in Türkiye, and he led the deal that took the former Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan defender to José Mourinho’s team.
In a recent interview, Branco said Benfica closely track the Turkish market and offered glowing praise of Skriniar, calling him a fantastic player with a strong personality who improves any side.
Skriniar, 31, has a well-established European résumé. He broke through at Sampdoria, spending six seasons in Serie A before heading to Türkiye.
