Milan to Make First Formal Steps to Onboard Gimenez

Milan are aware of the difficulties to sign Santiago Gimenez, but they won’t give up without trying. They are putting together their first official bid for the Mexican marksman. Feyenoord need to be blown away to sign off on the departure of one of their linchpins in January, Relevo’s Mattia Moretto reports (via SOSFanta).

The Rossoneri have tendered a contract until 2027 with an option to the striker. They are moving ahead with their pursuit even though they aren’t close to selling anybody at this stage, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. The officials weren’t on the same page about shipping off Strahinja Pavlovic to Fenerbahce to begin with, then he nixed the move.

Milan are ready to offer €30M for Gimenez, but it might not be enough. Qualifying for the Champions League’s Round of 16 directly would increase their ammo. They’d do it if they beat Dinamo Zagreb next week.

The Rossoneri will have to keep Emerson Royal since he got seriously hurt. Noah Okafor, Luka Jovic, and Samuel Chukwueze are available for the right offer, but their exits might not fetch much.

The center-forward has an Italian passport, so there would be no issues about the quota of extra-EU signings.

Our Take on Milan and Gimenez

They should probably shore up the midfield first, but a prolific no.9 masks a lot of flaws, and they had pretty good showings while using Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham together. Time will tell whether it’s just a way for their execs to look busy to appease the fans or if they are really serious. They’d easily find a good fallback if they were willing to spend that much.
