Milan’s Alpha Cisse to miss out Italy call-up despite big impact

Serie A side Milan have seen young Alpha Cisse impress this season but his possible call-up to the Italian national team may have to wait.

Both of the 19-year-old’s goals for the Rossoneri have come in Turin. He scored against Torino in the opening goal of the campaign. Against Juventus, he found the net from a very similar position after coming off the bench.

This led to suggestions he could soon be called up to the Italian national team, having previously played twice for the U21s.

But this may not happen for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.

MilanNews report that manager Roberto Mancini is keeping a close eye on Cisse. Technical director Claudio Ranieri is also keen on monitoring him further.

But for now, he will not be part of the squad for Italy. Cisse, instead, will be called up to the U21s side during the international break, as they take on Poland and Armenia.

While an Azzurri call-up will come at some point, it could’ve easily happened this time around. It would send a message that the Italy national team will make major changes and the same approach as earlier won’t cut it. But that hasn’t happened and it leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
