At the current moment, it will take an awful lot for AC Milan’s plans for their future to change, given they are in a fantastic position with the San Donato project. However, the Mayor, Beppe Sala, is not giving up hope on San Siro.

The situation seems clear to everyone, and it seems that Milan’s mayor may be starting to understand that the chances of a renovation project for San Siro are slim, considering how well the plans are San Donato are going.

Even if there were issues with the new project, the Rossoneri and RedBird’s owner, Gerry Cardinale, has expressed his desire to make a new home for the club, and as each day passes it seems increasingly less likely that will change.

In a recent meeting between Milan, Inter, and WeBuild to discuss the plans for the renovation project, there were claims that there had not even been presented plans, but rather a ‘manifestation of intent‘ rather than a concrete idea of what is happening.

Sala spoke to Corriere della Sera about the future of the stadium, with investors a potential future topic, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“My dream, which unfortunately I have not been able to realise, is the reopening of the Navigli. A very expensive operation and we don’t have the funds. I believe that we must continue along the path of internationalisation that is good for the city.

“Then, there’s one thing that’s a bit stinging for me, the stadium issue, where I don’t want to be optimistic or pessimistic, I’m pragmatic. But I hope that a solution can be found to save San Siro and convince the teams that it can still be their home,” he stated.

“Among the possibilities is that the two clubs buy the Meazza? Anything is possible. The issue is whether the teams agree to restructure it, knowing that it has been explained to us by WeBuild that it can be restructured without stopping matches, losing 4/5,000 seats of the current 74,000.

“Now that this is clear, they are called upon to make a decision. If they go down this route, any formula can be valid: buying, the 90-year surface right… Let’s see. And in the case of work, who better to do them? The answer is trivial, better the private ones, they have more capacity and can be quick. I hope so.”
