Millwall manager Alex Neil has confirmed that Alfie Doughty has suffered a hamstring injury which will keep him out for more than a month.

Doughty picked up the problem during training last week and subsequently felt discomfort during the warm-up ahead of Millwall’s Carabao Cup match against QPR.

“Alfie Doughty has picked up an injury. Honestly, I’m not quite sure the mechanism of how it’s happened,” Neil said ahead of the Championship opener against Bristol City.

“We did a session on Friday, it wasn’t particularly big. I think he stretched for a ball and seemed to feel something but not significant enough that it even got reported.

“Then he did the warm-up prior to the game and felt the same, an uncomfortable sensation in his hamstring.

“We took him out as a precaution and then got it scanned. Unfortunately, he’s got a little nick in there.”

Millwall are already without star man Tristan Crama, who has undergone another ankle surgery.

Midfielder Derek Mazou-Sacko is also out with a calf problem.
