There are 40 candles on the cake of Cristiano Ronaldo today, who is celebrating a milestone birthday.

Ronaldo enters his forties still scoring goals at a phenomenal rate, having plundered 87 in 95 appearances across the last two seasons with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.

The Portuguese superstar has taken professionalism to new levels in a career that has spanned over two decades, with few signs that he is slowing down.

Ronaldo has shattered records throughout his career and is targeting plenty more before his time is done. The 40-year-old is approaching 1000 career goals and, incredibly, a century of goals with a FOURTH different club side.

Your thirties are usually a time when footballers are said to be on the decline, but Ronaldo’s were the most fruitful of his career. He scored an astonishing 460 goals between his 30th and 40th birthdays, more than some all-time greats managed across their entire careers.

Ronaldo has scored more goals since turning 30 than players including Samuel Eto’o, Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba and ex-Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney scored in total.

An utterly absurd statistic.

Career goals (selected forwards)

  • Cristiano Ronaldo (after turning 30) – 460
  • Samuel Eto’o – 420
  • Thierry Henry – 411
  • Didier Drogba – 367
  • Wayne Rooney – 366
  • Ruud van Nistelrooy – 366
  • Robin van Persie – 322
  • Diego Forlan – 310
