Nottingham Forest are keeping tabs on Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to TWTD, the Reds are considering an approach for the full-back following the Tractor Boys’ relegation from the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are set to qualify for European competition for next season, and thus will want to bolster their squad in order to compete on two fronts.

Davis has a contract until the summer of 2028, but the opportunity to compete in continental competition will be appealing if a concrete offer is made this summer.

Leif Davies transfer exit claim

When asked whether he would begrudge Davis of a move this summer, FLW’s Ipswich fan pundit Adam Wilkin claimed he’d understand it if the player wanted a move.

He believes this is the consequence of being relegated, but is hopeful that the club can fight to keep hold of him in order to at least get a big fee if he departs.

“I don’t think you could begrudge Leif wanting to make the move to stay in the Premier League and also play European football, whether it’s going to be Champions League or Europa League, it’s something a lot of players would like to do in their career,” Wilkin told Football League World.

“He’s admitted recently that he’s struggled with the step up to the Premier League, it potentially came a season too soon, he might have liked another season in the Championship to develop, which could play a factor.

“But I think this is the risk of being relegated, a lot of players are going to get linked with clubs and potentially move on.

“But I don’t think Town will feel like they are in a position where they are forced to sell, and he was with us before we went into the Premier League, so there’s unlikely to be any relegation clauses in there.”

Leif Davis’ potential transfer value

Wilkin has claimed that Davis could be worth £20m-£25m this summer based on other moves in the market.

“In terms of how much he could go for, because of that, I think we should be able to get a decent fee, definitely a decent profit as we signed him for a couple of million a few years back,” he added.

“When you look at the market recently, Ian Maatsen went to Villa for about £45 million, very different player but I think that means you’re probably looking at a minimum £20m, £25 million I’d say, around that kind of value is maybe a price Town would consider selling for.”

Davis summer transfer interest is to be expected

Davis was excellent for Ipswich when they gained Premier League promotion, and showed flashes of that form in the top flight.

While he did struggle, so did the squad as a whole, and the experience he’s gained will help him develop, so there’s no reason why he can’t grow into a well-rounded first division player.

Forest would be an exciting opportunity, especially if they can qualify for the Champions League, and working under Espirito Santo could take him to a new level, particularly given how full-backs or wing-backs have excelled under him in the past.

A deal around the £20 to 25 million mark would be reasonable given Ipswich’s relegation, and the kind of fee Forest may find acceptable.
