Leonardo Bonucci has officially moved the first step of his coaching career as he joined Italy U-20’s staff as assistant manager and former Milan executive Massimiliano Mirabelli expects his style to ‘resemble’ Antonio Conte’s.
The former defender signed for Milan in the summer of 2017 when Mirabelli worked as a sporting director for the Rossoneri, and the latter still remembers Bonucci’s attention to ‘every detail’ and his ability to ‘relate to teammates’.
“In terms of character, after having often been a captain in his teams, he had a great ability to relate to his teammates, with executives and the whole environment surrounding him,” Mirabelli told Tuttomercatoweb.
“Above all, he really paid huge attention to every detail. He had the mentality, he was not the classic youngster switching off after practice. He was always there.
“Due to this characteristic, I think he can resemble Antonio Conte a lot, who was always on the ball and thought about his team’s sake.”
Mirabelli agreed with the view that Bonucci made the ‘right choice’ by starting his coaching career as an assistant to manager Bernardo Corradi.
“He has to start looking at things from the other side,” he added.
“He’ll put himself on the other side to understand all the dynamics that exist since you’re not a player anymore.
“He made the right choice by starting his path as an assistant in the U-20 side, he’ll gain experience and learn ways to coach.
“Step by step, he’ll get his chances. The path is the most important thing he doesn’t have to get wrong, I think he has everything to become a great manager.”
