AC Milan, by all accounts, have had a rotten season, but this viewpoint is not shared by everyone, with some believing that the side may have had a great set-up season.
Right now, Milan are not having a good season, but in 12 months’ time, it may seem like this season was perfect. For example, Napoli, who struggled to defend their Scudetto last season, are now fighting for the title again, largely due to their failure to qualify for Europe.
Perhaps, this fate will await Milan, with six other teams fighting for a European place. However, this is something that we would have to revisit in the future. Now, we must focus on the present, and whilst many believe this season has been a failure, some believe it could be a perfect pre-season.
Speaking to Stile TV, former director Massimilano Mirabelli spoke about the season, and tried to flip the scales, via Milan News.
“I’m going a bit against the tide because I hear a lot of criticism and everyone expected more. However, a great job has been done: Milan is a strong team and is laying the foundations for a bright future.
“Of course, in the championship things didn’t go so well, everyone expected it to be in contention for the championship, but the club has worked well. Today it is suffering a lot of criticism, but as an insider, I say that there are many good elements and there are all the prerequisites to build a great team.
“On Sunday Napoli will face a tough nut to crack, because looking at it this way it may seem like an easy game, but they meet the worst team at the moment. Milan have quality in their individuals and they can easily play it.
“Napoli are ahead of the others because they have Conte as coach and even though on paper they have a less competitive squad than Milan or Inter, they are doing important things. Milan are on the right path in terms of team building, but they need to find a leader like Conte to fight for the Scudetto.”
Of course, the dream for this season was the Scudetto, and whilst goals have not been achieved, it could allow greater things to happen next season.
