Mirassol were held 1-1 by Grêmio in the Copa do Brasil after a Denilson error led to the equaliser. According to Globo.com, Igor Formiga and Bruno Santos stood out in the ratings.
Igor Formiga supplied a pinpoint cross for Bruno Santos to open the scoring in the first half. Walter produced a fine one-on-one save, then was forced off before the interval after a collision with Wallace, with Alex Muralha coming on.
Early in the second half Muralha made a sharp stop, but moments later Amuzu levelled after Denilson failed to clear his lines. The substitute keeper was rarely tested thereafter and looked assured when called upon.
Centre-backs João Victor and Gabriel Knesowitsch were robust and largely in control. Reinaldo had a low-key Copa do Brasil bow, offered little in attack and was booked after a flare-up with Villasanti. Neto Moura returned from injury and was withdrawn in the second half.
Edson Carioca pressed tirelessly but his decision-making undermined promising breaks, he hit the post and missed a better-placed team-mate. Alesson, Shaylon and others could not spark sustained creativity as Mirassol finished on the front foot. Bruno Santos battled almost alone against the defence after the break.
Head coach Rafael Guanaes started his strongest side and later pushed for more threat with changes as Mirassol sought a winner. The stalemate leaves the tie finely poised for the return in Porto Alegre.
