Real Madrid’s preparations for the Champions League second leg at FC Bayern are being overshadowed by new personnel concerns. Kylian Mbappé, of all people, was absent from the Whites‘ latest training session – causing concern just a few days before the clash in Munich
The French superstar complained of slight discomfort after the league game against Girona. He also had to be treated for a cut near his eyebrow during the match. It is not yet clear what specific problems are behind his absence from training
The situation comes at a bad time for coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who is already without two key players in Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo, as well as Aurélien Tchouaméni, who is suspended for the second leg. The possible absence of Mbappé would further exacerbate the Madrid side’s personnel situation
Real’s recent training sessions have focused on intensive sequences with a focus on possession, pressing and finishing – precisely the elements they want to use to put FC Bayern under pressure at the Allianz Arena

Despite the short break, there are also positive signs from Spain. According to Spanish Real reporter Guillermo Rai, Mbappé’s absence from training is merely a precautionary measure. The attacker is expected to travel to Munich as planned and be ready for action in the second leg
For FC Bayern, this means that Kompany’s team will most likely have to reckon with one of the most dangerous attacking players in the world. The Frenchman already showed in the first leg that he can cause real problems for Munich’s defence with his dynamism. Mbappé was denied several times by the strong Manuel Neuer in the record champions‘ goal in Bayern’s 2-1 first-leg win.
