Mitchell Duke, 35, has retired from international football with Australia after earning 50 caps and scoring 13 goals.

The forward said in a statement that wearing the green and gold was a childhood dream, that representing his country 50 times made that dream come true repeatedly, and that his goal at the 2022 World Cup would remain the high point of his career.

He featured in Australia’s run to the 2022 World Cup last 16, where they lost 2-1 to Argentina.

Duke was decisive in 2026 qualifying, scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia that confirmed the Socceroos’ seventh World Cup finals appearance.

He was not selected for the tournament, where Australia went out in the round of 32 to Egypt after a 1-1 draw after extra time, losing 4-2 on penalties.
