Henrikh Mkhitaryan admits Inter players’ don’t understand’ why they struggle to win in big games this season but insists the Nerazzurri were ‘unplayable’ in the first half against Juventus.

Inter lost 1-0 to rivals Juventus on Sunday, failing to leapfrog Napoli at the top of the table.

“We didn’t take advantage of our chances in the first half. After the break, we didn’t start well, we wasted too much, but that’s football,” Mkhitaryan said at a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia.

Inter have only averaged 1,3 points per game in matches against the top eight of the table this term.

“It’s hard to explain. We don’t know what’s happening this year,” the Inter midfielder admitted.

“We struggle against the big teams, but we’re working to win the matches ahead of us.”

The Armenian said a few months ago that the Nerazzurri were “unplayable.” Would he repeat the same thing now?

“I will always trust my teammates and the way we play,” the midfielder said.

“Even in the first half, we were unplayable and could have scored two or three goals. We paid for it in the second half. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to break the deadlock.

“Our goals never change, even throughout the season. We always fight to win trophies. Just because we didn’t win one game doesn’t mean we’re not favourites.”

Did Napoli’s draw against Lazio on Saturday affect Inter’s motivation tonight?

“I don’t think so. We’re not focusing on our opponents; we’re concentrating on our own game,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t sharp for the full 90 minutes, and that’s not enough to win matches. We need to work harder and win games.”
