Charlotte FC are reported to have entered into negotiations with Allan Saint-Maximin (29) in an attempt to sign him as their ‘designated player’ (a player whose permitted salary exceeds the league’s salary cap), according to L’Équipe.
Currently sixth in the Eastern Conference table, the Major League Soccer franchise is keen to capitalise on the Frenchman’s impending contract expiry – on 30th June – to secure his services. A departure that RC Lens, who for their part hope to retain the former Newcastle United player, are now keen to avoid.
Having joined Les Sang et Or on a free transfer following the termination of his contract with Club America back in February, Saint-Maximin quickly settled back into life in France, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 559 minutes of play (13 appearances, equating to a goal or an assist every 79 minutes) during the second half of the season. The Châtenay-Malabry native made the most of this spell to win the Coupe de France, claiming the first trophy of his career in the process.
