After the links with strikers and wingers that emerge seemingly with each passing day, a rather different transfer story has emerged.
MilanNews report that Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano is a target because Milan will almost certainly need to sign a new player to fill the spots behind Mike Maignan, and there are a couple of reasons the 32-year-old stands out.
Firstly, the need is to find a reliable goalkeeper who came through an academy in Italy because of the regulations linked to the composition of the Champions League squad lists which led Pioli to have to cut Ciprian Tatarusanu, who has then been inserted as a substitute for the injured Maignan.
Then there is the opportunism of the deal, given Terracciano’s current contract will expire on 30 June 2023 and the discussions for a renewal with La Viola are momentarily at a standstill because he wants €1m net per season to renew.
This is why Maldini and Massara have Terracciano’s on their radar, and he has had some excellent references from the Milan technical staff, who see him as a great deputy to Maignan in emergencies.
Tatarusanu is currently likely to leave at the end of the season while Antonio Mirante – who is happy in the role of third goalkeeper – could remain and be given another one-year extension.
