The Egyptian King signed a new two-year contract extension towards the back end of last season. Worth an estimated £400k per week the deal takes Salah through to 2027.
But for various reasons it looks like sporting director Richard Hughes may opt to cut ties with the 33-year-old before then.
Consider first Salah’s output. Liverpool have been inconsistent this season - and are facing a fight to requalify for the Champions League.
And Salah hasn’t been at his best in this Liverpool lineup - failing to score a single Premier League goal since November 1.

Then you need to factor in Salah’s row with Arne Slot prior to his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The two-time African footballer of the year said his relationship with his head coach was non-existent and he accused the club of throwing him under a bus.
There has been a reconciliation since then but it would be no surprise to see Salah sold this summer if the right bid materialises.
The Premier League champions could attract a fee as high as £100m for Salah given his experience, quality and legendary status in the game - not to mention his marketability.
Saudi giants Al-Ittihad look set to make the first move having cleared space in their budget by offloading Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante in winter.
Winwin is claiming that super-rich Al-Qadsiah are now in the running to sign Salah.
Backed by Saudi Aramco - the national oil company - Al-Qadsiah have got the likes of Julian Weigl, Nacho and Mateo Retegui on the books.
They are also coached by former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers - who joined the club in December following his exit from Celtic.
“Salah is the first choice to strengthen Al-Ittihad in the upcoming summer transfer window,” the report reads.
“Another Saudi club interested in signing Salah in the upcoming summer transfer window is Al-Qadisiyah, owned by Aramco, which was the club with the largest amount of spending in the last winter transfer window, as the player is an important target for them in the near future.”
It looks inevitable that a parting of the ways is on the cards - and the Saudi Pro League is shaping up as Salah’s next destination.
