Mohamed El-Shenawy has received a four-match ban for physically confronting the referee during Al-Ahly's 1-1 draw with Ceramica Cleopatra FC on Tuesday.

According to L'Équipe, the 37-year-old was also fined 50,000 Egyptian pounds, roughly 800 euros, for pushing or pulling the official, described as non-violent hand use.

The Egypt international, who has 75 caps, was on the bench and became incensed when no penalty was awarded for a stoppage-time handball.

He was Egypt's starting goalkeeper at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and should be in the national squad for the World Cup this summer in America.

The suspension means he will be unavailable for Al-Ahly until the final week of the league's final phase, where the top seven teams face each other.
