Mohamed Salah was replaced in the second half of Egypt’s 1-1 draw with Iran on Friday. The Egyptian federation said in a statement on Saturday that he has a hamstring strain.
It did not specify whether the 34-year-old, capped 118 times, will be fit for the World Cup last 32. He will follow a treatment protocol for the strain.
After finishing second in Group G, Egypt will face Australia in the next round on 3 July at 20:00.
Left-back Ahmed Fatouh also has a hamstring issue and is highly doubtful for that game.
Mohamed Abdelmonem has a heavy ankle bruise but should be able to play.
