According to L'Équipe, several local outlets say Mohamed Salah is close to joining Besiktas, a move that would rank among the most significant in Türkiye.

The 34-year-old free agent is said to have a renewable one-year agreement worth €12 million plus bonuses, the report said.

In Istanbul, supporters refresh phones awaiting an announcement, even a post-op fan was filmed immediately checking if he had signed.

Club analysts argue it would be Besiktas's biggest transfer, perhaps the league's, given Salah's elite level, global profile and commercial pull.

Backers point to his three Premier League titles, in 2015 with Chelsea and in 2020 and 2025 with Liverpool, plus the 2019 Champions League, while others stress talks remain ongoing.

Since their 2021 title, Besiktas have trailed Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor, finishing fourth last season.

They have already signed Leandro Trossard from Arsenal for €18 million and unveiled him before 20,000 fans, who chanted Salah's name.

Some supporters say they will wait to buy the new shirt until his is available, and the club shop and airport could be swamped if he arrives.
