Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, the 33-year-old confirming the decision in a video posted during the international window. The player said in a post that this was the first part of his farewell.
This season brought flashpoints between Arne Slot, the club and the Egyptian, including Salah saying he felt betrayed by the club. He had recently returned to the starting line-up, though his future remained unresolved.
Signed from Roma in summer 2017, Salah became a modern Liverpool great. Under Jürgen Klopp he won the Premier League in 2020 and the Champions League in 2019, spearheading an attack with Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino.
He is third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list and reached 250 goals in November 2025. He is also the club’s top European scorer, holds the Premier League record for most combined goals and assists with one club, and is the league’s top African scorer. In 2025, under Slot, he claimed a second English title.
His message thanked supporters for the best moments of his life and conveyed that he will always feel one of them. He portrayed Liverpool as more than a club, a passion, a story and a mindset that is hard to explain to outsiders, and reflected on winning major trophies while enduring difficult times together.
Salah should play his final Anfield match for Liverpool against Brentford on 24 May, the 38th and final day of the Premier League season.
