Mohammed Salah has further etched his name in the history books as he tied the record for most goals scored by an African player in FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Liverpool forward equaled the record after finding the back of the net as the Egypt national team secured a 2-0 victory over Ethiopia on Friday.
Salah joined the exclusive list comprising illustrious names such as Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba, former Cameroon national team striker Samuel Etoo and Algeria’s Islam Slimani.
The quartet has scored a staggering 18 goals in the World Cup qualifiers. Interestingly, Salah is the current top goal scorer in the ongoing African qualifiers after netting seven goals with three assists.
With the win, the Pharaohs are currently atop group A with 19 points accumulated after seven matches played. A victory against Burkina Faso on Tuesday will confirm their spot at the global showpiece.
