Monaco hoping for Camara bidding war as Liverpool join Chelsea in race | OneFootball

AS Monaco are hoping Liverpool’s interest in Lamine Camara can lead to a bidding war between the Reds and Chelsea.

Chelsea saw a deadline-day move for the Senegal international collapse despite agreeing a fee with Monaco, after the Ligue 1 side pulled the plug on a deal.

The West Londoners had looked set to sign Camara for around £47m as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who joined Manchester City for £125m on the final day of the window.

However, a chaotic conclusion to the window saw Chelsea fail to land a midfielder, despite Fernandez’s exit, as Monaco withdrew from the deal.

Chelsea are understood to remain interested in Camara but now face competition from Liverpool, who have added the 22-year-old to a shortlist of midfield options for the January window.

According to TEAMtalk, Monaco believe they could receive more than £60m for Camara and are hoping the rival interest from Liverpool could lead to a bidding war between the sides.

Camara discussed his failed move to Chelsea earlier this week and said he has ‘turned the page’ and is focused on success in France this season.

“There was a possibility I could leave,” Camara said, speaking before Monaco’s game against Strasbourg on Saturday.

“It didn’t go through at the last minute, and that’s part of football. I’ve turned the page and am focusing on the season.”
