Monaco lost 2-0 at Sporting in Lisbon on 25 July, and now face another side bound for the Champions League.

Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League last season and have changed head coach, with Arne Slot replaced by Andoni Iraola. On Merseyside, Ibrahima Konaté and Mohamed Salah have departed on free transfers to Real Madrid and Trabzonspor.

The six-time European champions are finalising a loan for Ronald Araujo from Barcelona and a deal for PSG's France international Bradley Barcola, having already added Spanish world champion Victor Munoz from Osasuna.

Thursday's 1-0 win over Getafe underlined progress. Monaco conceded little and looked more compact. After his Louis-II bow and first clean sheet, Filipe Luis expressed strong satisfaction with the defensive execution.

Abline started in a 4-4-2 and impressed. Monaco used depth better and still seek a winger for width.

Vanderson is sharpening his understanding with Detourbet and Abline. The pursuit of Farès Ghedjemis remains active, the coach has approved the 23-year-old Frosinone and Algeria international, with a fee to agree and rival interest from Rangers and Celtic.
