Monaco to host Freiburg and travel to Brighton and Hearts in Conference League league phase | OneFootball

Monaco, Ligue 1’s only Conference League entrant, learned their league phase opponents in Friday’s draw in Monaco.

Monaco qualified by beating Gornik Zabrze 3-2 and 4-1 in the play-offs, and will face Freiburg, Brighton, Lincoln Red Imps, Heart of Midlothian, Nordsjälland and CSKA Sofia. “The objective is to qualify for the play-offs,” said sporting director Thiago Scuro, speaking to Canal+ after the draw.

The away schedule begins at Brighton’s American Express Stadium, with Brighton finishing eighth in the Premier League last season. Further trips follow to Heart of Midlothian, who came very close to winning the Scottish title before a torrid summer, and to CSKA Sofia, fourth in Bulgaria last term.

At Stade Louis-II, Monaco will host Freiburg, seventh in the Bundesliga, in a meeting of two of the stronger sides in this edition. They will also welcome Nordsjälland, third in Denmark last season.

Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar complete the home slate, entering their third appearance in the competition’s league phase. It will be the first time a French club have faced a team from Gibraltar.
